About

Rebecca founded Rebecca Carter Literary in 2023 and represents novelists and non-fiction writers with original perspectives on the world.

She worked as an editor at Random House between 1997 and 2012, then became an agent at Janklow & Nesbit UK in 2012 before setting up her own agency. She has a long-standing interest in literary fiction, crime and thriller, and non-fiction that speaks to the present moment through history, science or culture.

Agency submission guidelines

Email your submission to submissions@rebeccacarterliterary.com, addressed to either Rebecca or Tilda (not both). Put the covering letter in the body of the email, with the material as an attachment; only digital submissions are accepted (Word documents or PDFs), no external links, and a sample of writing must be attached. Title the email: "Submission: [your name] [TITLE OF SUBMISSION]" and save files as "[your name] [TITLE OF SUBMISSION] [type of document]". Ensure the typescript is 1.5 or double spaced with page numbers. For Fiction, send the first three chapters (or 10k words) along with a short synopsis of the whole book. For Non-Fiction, send a detailed proposal, along with (if possible) a sample chapter or sample writing. RCL does not represent young adult, Children's, Poetry, Illustrated books or Screenplays (with a few exceptions for existing clients).
