About

Marilia founded The Plot Agency in 2024 and represents an eclectic list of authors.

She began her career at Peters Fraser and Dunlop, working first as an international rights agent and later as a literary agent building her own list. She then worked as a literary agent at 42MP, helping to launch its Book Division. She holds a law degree from UCL and trained on the Columbia Publishing Course in New York.

Looking for

  • Marilia seeks polished, high-impact fiction and select non-fiction. In fiction, she’s drawn to darker, character-driven thrillers, crime, psychological suspense, accessible horror, smart rom-coms (à la Emily Henry), speculative or dystopian fiction, and book‑club novels reminiscent of Jodi Picoult or Liane Moriarty. She does not consider high fantasy or romantasy
  • prefers grounded speculative and big‑hook thrillers . In non-fiction, Marilia is open to pop science, narrative history, true crime, and investigative journalism.

Not looking for

  • fantasy, romantasy
  • military thrillers, organised crime/mafia/mob stories
  • sci-fi unless it's very grounded and has crossover potential to a mainstream audience

Agency submission guidelines

The agency accepts submissions via email only. Send the first three chapters of the novel or non-fiction project, along with a full synopsis. In the body of the email, include a covering letter stating the genre and market the book fits into, and any relevant writing experience. Only one project should be submitted at a time. Adult submissions only. Submissions should be sent to marilia@theplotagency.com. Writers should alert the agency if other agents have requested the complete manuscript or if there is an offer of representation. Marilia Savvides: represents fiction including book club novels with suspense, crime and thrillers, accessible horror, speculative/genre-bending/dystopian fiction, contemporary rom-com, and a smaller list of non-fiction including pop science/psychology, narrative history, true crime and investigative journalism. Does not represent fantasy, romantasy, military thrillers, organised crime/mafia stories, or non-grounded science fiction.
