Akan Books

Submission guidelines

Akan Books seeks writers from backgrounds underrepresented in UK publishing: authors from ethnic minority backgrounds, authors who identify as working class, and authors with disabilities. Submissions are judged on commercial potential. Eligibility: The submission must not have been previously published or self-published in any format, and must be written in English. A different, previously self-published work does not disqualify a writer from submitting new material. Genres accepted: crime, thrillers, romance, historical, contemporary, psychological suspense, book club, and family dramas. Genres not accepted: non-fiction, children's books, science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, young adult fiction, poetry, cookery, and academic texts. What to send: a synopsis or outline (maximum 500 words) and the first three chapters of the book (maximum 10,000 words). Formatting: the manuscript should have page numbers and a title page with the writer's name.
