Submission guidelines
Submissions for poets based in the UK and Ireland should be sent to Tony Ward. Poets writing in English but living outside the UK and Ireland should submit to the International Editor, James Byrne. Enquiries about translation work should be addressed to the general info email. What to send: 16-24 pages of poems, sent by email as a Word or PDF attachment, with no more than one poem per page. Hard copy or CD submissions are not accepted and will be discarded. Covering letter: a short covering letter (no more than one side of A4) stating which poetry magazines, periodicals and journals have published the poet's work, plus a brief description of the proposed book. Prior magazine publication is expected; without it, work is unlikely to be considered. Biography: a 200 word (maximum) biography giving a sense of who the poet is and which contemporary poets they read. Other information: details of where the poet performs their work, if at all, and any activities undertaken or planned to promote their own poetry and that of others. Exclusions: poetry by children, poetry for children, comic verse, prose, play scripts, libretti and religious poetry are not published, and this policy applies only to poets based in the UK and Ireland. Rights: acceptance of a collection is expected to come with world rights to publish the work. Exclusivity: manuscripts should not be submitted to other publishers while under consideration. Decisions: editorial decisions are final, and no correspondence or reasons for rejection will be given.
