Submission guidelines

Bloomsbury doesn't take unsolicited manuscripts for adult fiction or for children's fiction and non-fiction. Those need a literary agent. The same goes for any non-fiction subject not listed below. Bloomsbury also says it can't return material sent to it. Several specialist lists do take direct submissions. Unless noted below, each one wants a synopsis, the intended market, and a note on how the book compares with competing titles, plus a short note on your background and why you're the person to write it. Military History, Adlard Coles, Conway, Green Tree and Sport ask for the word Submission in the email subject line, and say they can't acknowledge receipt. They'll only be in touch if they want to take a proposal further. Military History: militaryhistory@bloomsbury.com, with the subject area in the subject line alongside the word Submission. Adlard Coles, the nautical list: adlardcoles@bloomsbury.com. Send a chapter breakdown and sample material as well. Conway, outdoor, travel and adventure: conway@bloomsbury.com. Send a chapter breakdown and sample material as well. Green Tree, health and wellness: greentree@bloomsbury.com, with the subject area in the subject line alongside the word Submission. Bloomsbury Business: business-submissions@bloomsbury.com. Your background note can be a CV instead. Bloomsbury Sport, sport and fitness: sport@bloomsbury.com, with the subject area in the subject line alongside the word Submission. Bloomsbury Wildlife, natural history: wildlife@bloomsbury.com. The same address takes Green Books, their gardening and eco-living list. Bloomsbury Sigma, popular science: sigma@bloomsbury.com. Sigma asks for a table of contents inside the synopsis, and doesn't ask for a note on your background. Bloomsbury Academic: takes proposals in all the subject areas it publishes, and asks you to approach an editor directly through its authors area. Education: education-submissions@bloomsbury.com, using Bloomsbury's Education Book Proposal Form. This list covers books for Early Years practitioners and for primary or secondary teachers in the UK. Proposals for a university audience go to Bloomsbury Academic instead.
