Submission guidelines

Boiler House Press requires submitters to purchase a recent BHP title prior to submission and to provide evidence of purchase during the submission process. Only one manuscript per author can be considered at a time. All manuscripts, regardless of genre, must be publication-ready at the time of submission. Simultaneous submissions to other publishers are welcome, provided the work is withdrawn immediately if accepted by BHP. Submissions are made by completing the online submission form. For prose (fiction and non-fiction): the full manuscript must be completed. Send a sample of the first chapter, or about 5,000 words, double spaced, size-12 standard font, with no author name on the document (as manuscripts are sometimes sent anonymised to internal readers), a cover page with the manuscript title, combined into a single Word document; a PDF may also be submitted alongside the Word document to preserve formatting. For short stories and flash fiction: the full collection must be completed. Send a sample of 1-2 short stories or 2-3 flash fiction pieces (about 5,000 words), double spaced, size-12 standard font, with no author name on the document, a cover page with a table of contents, combined into a single Word document; a PDF may also be submitted alongside the Word document to preserve formatting. For poetry: 60-75 A5 pages of poetry must be completed. Send a sample of 12-15 A5 pages of poetry, single-spaced, size-12 standard font, with no author name on the document, a cover page with a table of contents for the sample and, if available, a working title for the collection, combined into a single Word document; a PDF may also be submitted alongside the Word document to preserve formatting.
