Submission guidelines

Submissions are only accepted during specific windows: 1 January to 28 February for wildcard books (any genre and length); 1 April to 31 May for poetry collections (40+ pages); 1 July to 31 August for non-fiction prose pamphlets (up to 150 pages); 1 October to 30 November for poetry pamphlets (up to 40 pages). No unsolicited submissions are accepted outside these windows. Submissions are sent by email to submissions@brokensleepbooks.com. Page lengths: poetry collections 40+ pages; poetry pamphlets 15-40 pages; non-fiction prose 40-150 pages (send a sample of 40-70 pages). Writers should enquire if their work falls outside these lengths. Work should be sent as a Word document or PDF, in size 10 font for the main text; work should not be pasted into the body of the email, and.pages files, website links or file transfer site links will be deleted. Simultaneous submissions are accepted but should be indicated in the email. Submissions are considered regardless of location, and collaborative submissions are considered. The email should include a short biography and brief synopsis in the body of the email, mention of a Broken Sleep book the writer has read and enjoyed if applicable, and for poetry, any poetic influences or poets admired. The subject line should read: [Poetry pamphlet/Poetry collection/Non-fiction/Wildcard] Submission - [Name], [Title]. Previously published work is accepted within a manuscript but should preferably not exceed 50% of the full manuscript. Translations are considered, and as Broken Sleep does facing-page translations, both the original and translated language text are required. Queries should be sent to aaron@brokensleepbooks.com, as the submissions email is not checked during submission windows; submissions sent to that address will be discarded without being read. There is no charge to submit.
