Submission guidelines

Currently open for novella and collection submissions. Carnyx Press accepts collected short fiction or novellas in speculative genres, for writers living in the North of England, agented or unagented. What to send: a cover letter of no more than 500 words outlining the genre, theme, and plot of the manuscript, its length, whether it is a full draft, and a summary of publication history. Confirm residency in the North of England and that no Generative AI was used at any stage. Attach the first three chapters or three stories (or 10,000 words if preferred) as a Word file, PDF or similar (.doc,.docx,.odt,.pdf). Word count: manuscripts should be 15,000 to 40,000 words. Formatting: 12pt font, Times New Roman or similar, double line spacing, tab indents for new paragraphs and speech, ideally following Shunn Modern format (no need for address or phone number, just an email). Rules: novella submissions must be previously unpublished. Short fiction collections may include previously published stories with non-exclusive rights, but at least 50% must be unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but the press should be notified if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere. No writing created with Generative AI assistance is accepted. Submissions must come from writers living in the North of England (Cheshire, Cumbria, County Durham, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and Yorkshire).
