Submission guidelines

Fairlight Books is currently closed to book-length submissions (novels, novellas, short story collections and non-fiction). Children's and young adult books are not published. Fairlight Books is open to submissions of individual short stories for publication on its online platform. What to send: attach the story as a Word document or PDF, and include a brief cover note with the story's title, word count and a short author bio. Word count: each story should not exceed 5,000 words. There is no minimum word count, and flash fiction is welcome. Genre: literary fiction or well-written general fiction for a broad readership is preferred. Genre fiction such as crime, romance, horror or hard sci-fi is not typically published, though stories that blend genres with literary flair are welcome. Only stories written for adult readers are considered. Multiple submissions: up to two short stories may be submitted at a time, attached as separate documents to the same email. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but the writer should notify by email if the work is accepted elsewhere. Rights: full ownership of the submitted work is required, and it must not have been plagiarised. If accepted, first exclusive rights to publication are required, meaning the story should not have been previously published in an anthology, magazine, online or in print. AI-generated writing: AI-generated stories should not be submitted. Submission method: submissions are accepted by email only, not by post. Stories should be emailed to Submissions@FairlightBooks.com.
