Submission guidelines

Fairlight Books is only open to submissions of individual short stories for its online platform. Each story should not exceed 5,000 words (no minimum, flash fiction accepted); word count must be included in the body of the submission email. Preferred genres are literary fiction or well-written general fiction for adults; genre fiction such as crime, romance, horror or hard sci-fi is not typically published. Submissions should be emailed as a Word document or PDF to Submissions@FairlightBooks.com.The submission email should include a brief cover note with the title and word count for each story and a short author bio, plus mention of any previous publications or award listings. Only email submissions are accepted, with the story attached as a Word doc or PDF; postal submissions cannot be considered or returned. Up to two short stories may be submitted at a time by the same author, attached to the same email but in separate documents. Simultaneous submissions are accepted but the agency should be notified by email if the work is accepted elsewhere. Submitters must have full ownership of the work and it must not be plagiarised; if published, first exclusive rights are required, meaning the story must not have been previously published in print or online. No fee is charged for submission or publication, and no payment is made to authors for stories published on the site.
