Submission guidelines

Fiction: novels in science fiction, fantasy, horror and supernatural, in the range of 70,000 to 120,000 words, are sought for the Flame Tree Press list. A completely new, previously unpublished novel is preferred, though a previously released title for which the author retains rights may still be considered. Short stories are only accepted for specific anthologies announced on the website, blog and social media. General submission guidelines: work should be emailed to submissions@flametreepress.com and should include a synopsis of no more than 3 paragraphs, the word count, the whole manuscript in.doc,.docx or.rtf format (with the author's name and email address on the manuscript itself), and a writer's CV summarising previous publications, awards or recognition. Any simultaneous submission elsewhere should be disclosed to avoid conflict of interest. Use of a literary agent is not necessary, though having published work in relevant magazines, websites or other outlets is an advantage. Anthologies & short story collections: short stories are accepted for anthologies which are announced on the website, blog, newsletter and social media channels (@FlameTreePress); submission details also appear on Duotrope, Horror Tree and Substack. Submissions open regularly throughout the year and full guidelines are given on the Flame Tree blog. Newsletter | Flash fiction guidelines: authors must sign up to the Flame Tree Fiction Newsletter before submitting. Stories should be submitted by email to flashfic@flametreepublishing.com, preferably in.doc,.docx or.rtf format, double-spaced, with the author's email at the top of the first page and the story theme used as the email subject heading. Word count must fall strictly within 700-1000 words, indicated at the top of the submission. Simultaneous submissions are allowed but must be sent in separate emails. Only original, unpublished work is considered, and full author details (published work, influences, hometown, social media links) should be added at the end of the story.
