Submission guidelines

Open to proposals all year round, through forms on Submittable. What they publish: specialist non-fiction only, across the JKP, Singing Dragon and Handspring imprints, plus children's books that use stories to champion understanding and empowerment. Check jkp.com and singingdragon.com first to see whether your subject fits. How to submit: pick the one form that fits your book: JKP, Singing Dragon and Handspring, or Children's. Never send the same proposal to more than one; if the other imprint suits better, they will offer to pass it across. The form asks what the book is about, who it is for and why it is needed, with a short author biography and questions on length and illustrations. A sample chapter is welcome but not essential. Save and edit as you go; a confirmation email follows (check spam). Children's books: include a draft manuscript, and draft illustrations if an illustrator is already signed up. Response: expect a decision in around eight weeks, longer when busy. No reply after sixteen weeks means no. Worth knowing: if the online form is hard to use for health or disability reasons, email proposals@jkp.com with Accessibility in the subject line for the questions in another format.
