Submission guidelines

Peepal Tree Press is open for submissions until 15th December 2026, through its Submittable portal. Each category has a separate door for UK based authors and authors based outside the UK. The press publishes fiction, poetry, and academic and non-fiction titles, around twenty books a year, with a focus on writing from the Caribbean and its diasporas and on Black British writing. Fiction: a covering letter plus three attachments, the manuscript, a synopsis and a brief bio. Novels and short story collections, with a minimum of about 120 pages or 40,000 words. The press looks for a distinctive voice and writing with a degree of originality. Poetry: whole collections only, of about 48 pages of poems or more, with an overview of the collection and a brief bio. Check the press's poetry list first for a sense of what it looks for. Non-fiction: a covering letter plus a complete manuscript, a contents list and synopsis, and a brief bio. All non-fiction is considered; check the press's existing titles for the kind of books it publishes. What happens next: every submission is read, but the press cannot offer feedback.
