Agency submission guidelines

Submissions can be made through QueryManager or by email to submissions@ashliterary.com. When using the email address, specify which agent is being queried. Submissions sent elsewhere, or sent to both QueryManager and the email simultaneously, will be deleted unread. Do not submit to multiple ASHL agents simultaneously or in succession, as a pass from one agent counts as a pass from the whole agency. Any work created partially or fully with AI will be automatically rejected, and work must be created solely by the author. Books about an identity that is not the author's own (including experiences of family or friends) will not be a good fit. Alice: for novels, send the first three chapters and a synopsis. For graphic novels, send a proposal and up to ten pages of samples. Query through QueryManager or submissions@ashliterary.com. Paula: for novels, send the first three chapters. For picture books, send sample illustrations that include at least one image of the main character and upload the entire text. Include a note in the query letter if the manuscript includes depictions of sexual assault or dead children (including teenagers). Query through QueryManager or submissions@ashliterary.com, with a strong preference for QueryManager.

Agency AI policy

Any work created partially or fully with AI will be automatically rejected. Your work must be created solely by you and should you sign with the agency you will be signing an agreement to warrant this.
