Agency submission guidelines

Submissions are accepted through QueryManager or by email at submissions@ashliterary.com. What to send: For novels, send the first three chapters and a synopsis. For graphic novels, send a proposal and up to 10 pages of samples. Paula asks for the first three chapters for novels, and for picture books, sample illustrations including at least one image of the main character, plus the entire text uploaded. Rules: Do not submit to multiple ASHL agents simultaneously or in succession, as a pass from one agent counts as a pass from the agency. Submissions sent to both QueryManager and the email address simultaneously, or sent elsewhere, will be deleted unread. If using the email address, specify which agent is being queried. Work created partially or fully with AI is automatically rejected and authors must warrant sole authorship in any signed agreement. If the book concerns an identity that is not the author's own, including experiences based on family members or friends, the agency will not be a good fit. Diversity focus: The agency is seeking extraordinary stories reflecting the diversity of the world, particularly voices historically underrepresented in publishing, and is not interested in overdone tropes told from a non-marginalised perspective. Per-agent contact: Alice can be queried through QueryManager or the submissions email. Paula can be queried through QueryManager or the submissions email, with a strong preference for QueryManager. Saffron prefers all queries through QueryManager, though those with an accessibility need preventing its use may query by email instead.
