Submission guidelines

Submissions are welcomed in fiction (commercial and literary), non-fiction (including biography, cookery, history, popular science, memoir, music, politics, economics, sport and lifestyle) and children's fiction and non-fiction. No reading fees or up-front fees are charged. Fiction: send a cover letter with a pitch briefly introducing the author and the work in the body of the email, together with the first three chapters and a synopsis as attachments. Non-fiction: send a cover letter with a pitch briefly introducing the author and the work in the body of the email. Attach a proposal outlining the book and explaining why the author is best-placed to write it, along with some sample writing. Children's picture books: send a cover email briefly introducing the author and the work, and attach the full manuscript and sample illustrations if the submitter is also the illustrator. How to send: submissions should be emailed directly and only to the specific agent being approached, using the email address on that agent's profile page. Do not submit to more than one agent at once; if an agent thinks the work suits a colleague better they will share it internally. Post: submissions by post are not accepted. Physical submissions are discarded without review and will not receive a response. International submitters: writers based in an English-speaking country outside the UK or Republic of Ireland with well-established agencies of their own are expected to have a convincing reason for seeking UK representation. Not considered: screenplays are not handled and submissions of this type will not be considered or responded to.
