Amber is a children's literary agent and co-founder of Skylark Literary.

She was previously Editorial Director at Orion Children's Books and Senior Commissioning Editor for Random House Children's Books. She began her career at Working Partners, where she worked on series including the million-copy-selling Rainbow Magic. Amber now uses her editorial experience to support children's authors and build relationships between writers and publishers.

Agency submission guidelines

Skylark Literary is open to submissions for children's fiction, ranging from chapter books for emerging readers (aged 5+) up to young adult/crossover titles. Picture book submissions are not currently accepted. What to send: a Word document of the full manuscript, together with a one-page synopsis and a covering email. How to send: submissions are accepted by email only, to submissions@skylark-literary.com. Covering email: state the age group envisaged and note comparable children's or young adult titles already on the market, give a brief pitch paragraph of the plot, and say whether the book is a stand-alone story or intended as the first in a series. Include a paragraph or two about the writer's background, location, interests and inspiration, and whether it is a first novel or the writer has been published before. If the book seems particularly suited to a specific agent (Joanna or Amber), mention this and why; otherwise submissions are read and shared with a view to each agent's tastes.
