The agency accepts fiction, non-fiction, and children's submissions, from debut, previously published, or self-published authors. Only electronic submissions are accepted, sent directly to the chosen agent's email (found on each agent's profile page). Submissions to the general info inbox will not be considered. Poetry, short stories, and film scripts are not accepted, nor are manuscripts created using AI. Hard-copy submissions are not accepted and will be recycled. What to send: choose one agent who seems the best fit for the work; do not submit to more than one agent at LBA, and only submit one project at a time. Put the manuscript title and genre in the email subject line, e.g. "TITLE / genre". Fiction: include a covering letter in the body of the email, a brief synopsis, and the first three chapters (or first 5,000 words if the book has no chapters) as a Word document. Non-fiction: include a covering letter in the body of the email, a proposal, and a writing sample of at least 5,000 words as a Word document. Formatting: use a legible font, size 12pt, 1.5 or double-spaced, and include the book title and author's name in the attachment file names. Covering letter: no specific format required, but should include a one-line pitch, a compelling blurb (a couple of paragraphs), comparison titles or authors, and a little about the author. Synopsis: should be 1-2 pages covering the entire plot, including spoilers. Other rules: only completed, polished manuscripts or proposals should be submitted. Repeat or revised submissions should not be sent unless specifically requested by the agent. If an offer of representation is received while a submission is under consideration elsewhere, LBA should be informed.
