Caroline Michel DBE has been chief executive of PFD since 2007, and chairs the Hay Festival, having previously served as its trustee.

She was formerly chair of the BFI Trust, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Royal Society of Literature, vice president of the London Library and a trustee of Historic Royal Palaces. She has sat on boards including the BFI and Somerset House, served on the Booker Prize Advisory Committee, and has been a longstanding champion of libraries and librarians.
