About

Kate founded The Shaw Agency in 2019, after eighteen years as a literary agent at Aitken Alexander Associates and The Viney Agency.

During her career she has represented writers who have topped the New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller lists, including titles selected for major book clubs and adapted for film and television. Kate's aim is to support her clients across all aspects of their writing careers, to negotiate deals for them internationally, and to discover and nurture new talent.

Genres

Agency submission guidelines

Submissions are made via the Contact page: fill in 'Name' and 'Email', and under 'Subject' type the title of the manuscript, its genre and word length. Paste the submission into the message block. Fiction: submission should include a covering letter of up to 300 words, the first 6 pages or approx 3,000 words of the novel, and a short synopsis of about 500 words. Non-fiction: submission should include a covering letter of up to 300 words, a chapter plan and one sample chapter. Check that the text in the message block has paragraphs and line spaces, adding them manually if necessary. Do not include more material than requested, do not send material about more than one book, and do not query or chase for a response.
