Anne founded the agency in 2012 after many years as a commissioning editor at publishers including Piccadilly Press and Hodder Children's Books, where she was also an editorial director.
Her clients' books have been published at home and worldwide, translated into dozens of languages, adapted for the stage, included in national book initiatives, optioned by film and TV companies and have won major book awards. She works closely with her authors, drawing on her editorial experience to get manuscripts into great shape before they go to editors, and works with specialist colleagues on international and film and TV rights. She is keen to hear from writers from all backgrounds, whether debut or already published, and particularly welcomes submissions from groups currently under-represented in publishing.
The agency is currently closed to submissions. When open, submissions go by email to submissions@anneclarkliteraryagency.co.uk. Put the book title and your surname in the subject line, and tell her briefly about the book and yourself in the email. Everything is pasted into the body of the email, not attached. Fiction: a brief synopsis of the whole plot, followed by the first 3,000 words of the book. Non-fiction: a short proposal and text for three sample pages. Currently seeking fiction (younger readers, middle grade and young adult) and non-fiction for children and teenagers. Not taking on new picture book writers. Finish the book before submitting it, send text rather than images, and do not phone or email ahead, email the whole manuscript, or send submissions by post. You will get an acknowledgement when your submission arrives. If you have not heard within four weeks, the answer is no.
